Submit Photos to my new Puffy Hair Project children’s book

puffy mom n sonI’ve decided to put my Puffy Hair Project on the front burner.  I made the decision in response to recent hostile events to young black girls’ hair.  I wrote up my outrage about these on the blog My Brown Baby.  And I decided to fight back with this project.  Here’s a description:

“The Puffy Hair Project is a children’s book of text and photographs featuring kids, teens, adults, and families with naturally puffy hair.  It is designed to provide children of African heritage and other puffy-haired kids with positive images.  The Project was started by writer/performer/educator Aya de Leon to share a book she had created for her own daughter with other families and children.”

So send me your nappy, your puffy, your kinky, your curly.  Your wavy your dreaded your braided your cornrowed.  Your spiraling tresses, yearning to breathe free.  If you’d like to be involved, please send a high resolution photo with the name and contact info of all of the adults and parents or guardians of the young people, as well as name and email of the photographer to PuffyHairProject@gmail.com.  I will send permission/release forms to those selected to be in the book, and they will get a free copy.  Priority will be given if your hair defies gravity.
***Deadline extended to 11/1!!***
